Trouble Sleeping?

Life is something that happens when you can't get to sleep.

For Chark Mu, there has definitely not been a long time in between drinks. Having released Rocker and I Know Its Time both in the past couple of months, he has pushed on and made a track that draws the attention away from his previous productions.

Eh Oh is his latest opus, and it starts off with soothing and stimulating synths. Once again he utilizes his own voice, and while he isn't a singer, he sure isn't tone deaf. The first 211 seconds of Eh Oh continues to draw you deeper and deeper into a state of hypnosis; the repeating line of lyrics, the fluid synths and the extra terrestrial frequencies. More vocals start to kick in, and you can subconsciouly feel the music start to throb and pulsate harder and more aggresively.

He plateaus that intense feeling and then creates a drop into a harder and heavier line. This new line wakes you up from the hypnosis and is unusually invigorating.

Soulwax were absolutely amazing, they played their versions of Robot Rock, Phantom Pt. II and also the track with the lyrics "Do you know where your teenager is at five o' clock in the morning? Some say they come looking drugs, dirty dancing, and pounding, pounding techno music. It's 5AM do you know where your children are? Well things have changed, today the question for parents is it's 10AM, do you know where your children are?"

2 Many Dj's were also superb, dropping tracks new and old, from the Soulwax Nite Version of MGMT's Kids to tracks such as Tiga's "Mind Dimension" and ZZT's "The Worm".

Skybombers

The Skybombers are a bunch of Melbourne lads fresh off the starting blocks, already showing great promise with the release of their first album, recorded in LA. Produced by Rick Parker, who has also worked with the Von Bondies, Dandy Warhols, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, their debut LP Take Me To Town is packed with energy and exuberance. While the studio stuff can never live up to the excitement of their live shows, the 12 tracks on the album provide a solid taste of the potential of the Skybombers. It is filled to the brim with lively hooks, fast paced chord progressions and simple no-frills garage rock. The best tracks on the album, like "1, 2, 4 to the Floor" and "It Goes Off" are the ones that are great live, and will have you bopping along in no time. Many of the songs are fairly similar, but they are short and lively enough to keep you entertained. Two brief acoustic interludes show off the band's softer side, with the excellent backing vocals and catchy melody of "My Morning's Gone", and the classic rock references in "Eleanor's Lullaby." All in all, Take Me To Town is a robust first attempt and the Skybombers will definitely be a band to look out for in the coming months.

The Skybombers play many shows in Melbourne, and they recently scored a gig on the Footy Show: those who were watching would have seen them playing their single "Always Complaining" without Hugh's rhythm guitar because of technical difficulties. Talk about shit luck!
