You should always listen to Black Kids

Only two of the five Black Kids are actually black.
Their debut release, Partie Traumatic, is a light hearted mix of poppy 80s synths and catchy call and response vocals. Each track on the album is bursting with energy and exuberance, and it's hard not to be swept up along with them.

Their two singles, "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You" and "Hurricane Jane" are fun listens both with infectious melodies and backing vocals. Hurricane Jane, like a few of their songs, has a hint of sadness in the lyrics: "I took something, it feels like karate / Kicked me down and left me for dead", but these less-than-happy themes melt into the feel-good vibe of the tracks. My personal favourite is "I'm Making Eyes At You", its synth line is very catchy and the vocals are a little more subdued which makes for a pleasant contrast.

Over the past year or so Black Kids have been hyped to the extreme, but their music is still entertaining. Even if they are all hype, Partie Traumatic is worth listening to for its syrupy simpleness.
